    104— Gender Differences in Bystander Responses to Male Violence Against a Transwoman

    No studies have examined bystander responses to violence against apparent transwomen, which reflects the general lack of research on transgender identities in the field of psychology. Given gender differences in socialization, men, as compared to women, were expected to report less intent to intervene to help a transwoman subjected to violence. Men were also predicted to show less victim sympathy and greater transphobia. Undergraduate participants (N = 107) who self-identified as heterosexual and cisgender responded to a measure of transphobia and then to a scenario of male violence against a woman. Specifically, they were randomly assigned to one of two conditions in which the victim was slurred as a “tranny” or a “slut.” They then completed measures of intent to intervene, sympathy for the victim, and perception of the victim. Those assigned to the trans-slur condition perceived the victim as trans. Results also showed that, compared to women, men reported less intent to intervene when the victim was perceived as trans. Regardless of their perception of the victim, women showed more victim sympathy and less transphobia than men. Although naturalistic research methods are needed to extend these preliminary findings, the results highlight gender differences in helping transwomen

    Flipped Publishing: A New Paradigm for Medical Textbooks

    Medical textbooks remain an integral component of the undergraduate education pathway. These texts are traditionally prepared by senior clinicians or academics, based on their long experience of the subject matter. Medical students and junior doctors are commonly asked to review these books, but often have little role in influencing the content. This article will discuss the opening of a new paradigm in medical publishing, whereby students and junior doctors (juniors) take the lead in planning and producing the content of their textbooks with senior clinicians taking the role of reviewer.

    An intersectional human rights approach to prioritising access to COVID-19 vaccines

    We finally have a vaccine for the COVID-19 crisis. However, due to the limited numbers of the vaccine, states will have to consider how to prioritise groups who receive the vaccine. In this paper, we argue that the practical implementation of human rights law requires broader consideration of intersectional needs in society and the disproportionate impact that COVID-19 is having on population groups with pre-existing social and medical vulnerabilities. The existing frameworks/mechanisms and proposals for COVID-19 vaccine allocation have shortcomings from a human rights perspective that could be remedied by adopting an intersectional allocative approach. This necessitates that states allocate the first COVID-19 vaccines according to (1) infection risk and severity of pre-existing diseases; (2) social vulnerabilities; and (3) potential financial and social effects of ill health. In line with WHO’s guidelines on universal health coverage, a COVID-19 vaccine allocation strategy that it is more consistent with international human rights law should ensure that vaccines are free at the point of service, give priority to the worst off and be allocated in a transparent, participatory and accountable prioritisation process

    Should COVID-19 vaccines authorized for emergency use be considered “essential” medicines?

    A critical debate in the race to develop, market, and distribute COVID-19 vaccines could define the future of this pandemic: How much evidence demonstrating a vaccine’s safety and efficacy should be required before it is considered “essential”? If a COVID-19 vaccine were to be designated an essential medicine by the World Health Organization, this would invoke special “core” human rights duties for governments to provide the vaccine as a matter of priority irrespective of resource constraints. States would also have duties to make the vaccine available in adequate amounts, in the appropriate dosage forms, with assured quality and adequate information, and at an affordable price. This question is especially critical and unique given that COVID-19 vaccines have in many cases been authorized for use via national emergency use authorization processes—mechanisms that enable the public to gain access to promising medical products before they have received full regulatory approval and licensure. In this paper, we examine whether unlicensed COVID-19 vaccines authorized for emergency use should ever be considered essential medicines, thereby placing prioritized obligations on countries regarding their accessibility and affordability

The described approach is the foundation for the federated, skill-based search and learning object retrieval. The deliverable focuses on reporting the analysis of the available repositories and the best infrastructure that can support OpenScout’s initiative. TENCompetence.This document includes the evaluation results of the Cycle 3 real-life evaluation activities. A cross-analysis of the results is compiled in order to present the impact indicators of the project in terms of outreach, learning benefits, organizational implications, and business opportunities identified in these experiences. The implementations and eight business/market-relevant demonstrators conducted in collaboration with external "adopter organizations" from different countries in Europe. These external organizations are Associated Partners or different units within the partners'organization. The revised pilots and the demonstrators test the tooling achieved along DIP-3. Both pilots and business demonstrators show to provide benefits to socially- and industrially-relevant scenarios.
